WHO IS MUSA?
Mountain United Soccer Association (MUSA) is an independent 501C3 non-profit organization that is guided by a volunteer board of directors and parent volunteers. MUSA was formed in 1988 to provide an opportunity for all kids ages 4-16 to learn soccer skills, develop sportsmanship, and character in the North Georgia Mountains. The club is affiliated with the Georgia State Soccer Association and Georgia Youth Soccer Association.


WHEN DOES THE SEASON START AND END?
Spring Season: Mid February - Mid May
Fall Season: Late August - Late November

HOW DO I ONLINE REGISTER MY CHILD FOR MUSA SOCCER?
At the top of the website there is a Key Icon and the work "Register" click here for first timers.
Retain that username and password for future seasons.
Returning Families can just Logon with their Username and password.


DO YOU HAVE TO LIVE IN UNION COUNTY TO PLAY AT MUSA?
No, we welcome Union, Towns, Fannin counties, and Cherokee County, North Carolina families. 

HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO PLAY SOCCER AT MUSA?
MUSA has programs for ages 4 thru 16. 

WHAT TYPES OF SOCCER PROGRAMS DOES MUSA OFFER?
Recreational: Recreational programs are for youth players and are geared towards players who want to play "just for fun." Teams are not selected using tryouts and players are never "cut." Teams may be formed randomly or geographically by where players live.

Academy: Academy programs are competitive select soccer programs designed for younger players. Academy programs are for the U10 and U12 age groups, though there "pre-Academy" programs for players as young as U08. Teams are formed using tryouts, though the primary objective of these programs is player development.

Select: Select programs are competitive select soccer programs. Designed for players U13 division. Teams are formed using tryouts, though the primary objective of these programs is player development.

Classic: These programs are for the competitive player in age U16. These teams are formed by tryouts, players are cut, and the focus is split between development and competition.


HOW MUCH ARE THE RECREATIONAL REGISTRATION FEES?
  • For U6it is $75 to play.
  • For U8-U12 it is $85 to play.  (If a U12 team enters RIAS the fee will be $120)
  • For U14-U16 it is $120 to play.


WHAT HAPPENS IN THE CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER?
Field status will be posted to the MUSA website (www.mountainsoccer.org) by 3:00 pm each weekday and by 7:30 am each Saturday. We will continue to monitor the conditions and, in the case of late-arriving storms, will update the site as necessary. 
***We encourage all MUSA families to sign up to receive field status notifications via text or email at RAINED OUT. ***

DOES MUSA DO A PICTURE DAY?
Yes, coaches will inform you when and where.


DOES MY CHILD NEED A UNIFORM?
No, it is included in the registration fees.

DOES MY CHILD RECEIVE A TROPHY?
Yes, Trophies/medals are included in the registration fees.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED?
Shoes:
 It is mandatory that all players wear soccer shoes with molded cleats for better traction.
Shin Guards & Socks: It is mandatory that all players wear shin guards to practices and games. Shin guards must be covered by proper soccer socks.
Ball: If you bring a soccer ball it is recommended that soccer balls be clearly marked with the player’s name and phone number.

WHAT SIZE BALL IS REQUIRED?
U4 thru U8:     size 3
U10 thru U12: size 4
U14 thru U19: size 5

WHEN WILL SOMEONE CONTACT US AFTER REGISTRATION?

The league will contact you immediately after the registration deadline with basic information about the upcoming season. Once teams are formed, coaches will contact you with practice time information. Game schedules are released during the first week of practices. 

WHAT AGE GROUP WILL MY PLAYER PARTICIPATE IN?

Our registration system automatically places your child in the appropriate age group based on the Georgia Soccer Age Group Chart.  The “U” associated with an age group stands for “under."

CAN I MAKE A SPECIAL REQUEST FOR TEAM PLACEMENT? 
Yes, all requests are taken into consideration. However not all requests can be met due to other factors such as age conflicts, boy/girl ratios and competitive balance of the teams.

CAN MY PLAYER PLAY UP AN AGE GROUP?
Players will always be encouraged to remain in their own age group in order to properly develop and excel. If a parent would like their child to move up an age group, they should contact the league and make the request before the registration deadline. The request will then be considered by the league director.

CAN MY PLAYER PLAY DOWN AN AGE GROUP?
No, due to Georgia Youth Soccer regulations we are not allowed to ever move a player down an age group.

WHAT ARE PLAYER EVALUATIONS AND WHY ARE THEY NECESSARY?
All MUSA players are required to participate in player evaluations in order to assess their skill level and experience. Player evaluations are held 1-2 weeks after the registration deadline at the Elan soccer fields. The league announces the exact date and times the day after registration closes. Evaluations are designed to make sure that teams are formed in a balanced and competitive way. Players will be exposed to a few basic drills and will have a chance to play a practice game at different positions. These are not tryouts. Evaluations usually last about an hour.

ARE THE TEAMS COED?
All teams are coed in the recreational divisions. RIAS and Select teams (travel teams) are gender specific unless there aren't enough to complete a team.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PARTICIPATION FEE?

Georgia Soccer registration and insurance, a team jersey, participation commemorative item, coaching education, assistant coaches program with Young Harris College, league administration, referee fees, field maintenance fees, a minimum of 8 games. 

WHO WILL COACH MY PLAYER’S TEAM?

Recreational coaches are all parent volunteer coaches. Volunteer coaches serve as the head coach and team manager of each team. Each coach will also be paired with an assistant coach who will be able to help with the skill development aspect of soccer. Assistant coaches are student-athletes from Young Harris College. 

WHERE AND WHEN WILL MY PLAYER PRACTICE?

Practices will always be held at the Elan fields. Practice days and times are determined by the coaches during the preseason coaches meeting. Teams will practice twice a week until games start. Once games begin all teams will be required to practice at least once. No team is allowed to practice more than 3 times per week. Practice days and times will be posted on mountainsoccer.org and on our Facebook page. 

WHERE WILL THE SOCCER GAMES BE PLAYED?

All recreational home games will be played at the Elan fields. U10 and U12 teams may have away games to neighboring areas such Fannin County or Towns County. No away games will be any further than 25 minutes drive from the Elan fields. 

WHEN WILL THE SOCCER GAMES BE PLAYED?

Most games are on Saturdays with some games on Thursday evenings. Saturday games start at 8:30am and can be played as late as 2:00 pm. RIAS and Select (travel) games may be scheduled on Sundays as well.

HOW MANY GAMES WILL THE TEAMS HAVE?

All teams will receive a game schedule with a minimum of 8 games.

HOW DO I (OR MY CHILD) BECOME A REFEREE?
